Establishing Hong Kong Standards for Chinese Medicinal Materials
The Hong Kong Chinese Medicinal Materials Standards ("HKCMM Standards") project was first launched in 2002, with the aim of developing standards for commonly used Chinese medicinal materials in phases to ensure their safety and quality. In the 2009 Policy Address, the Chief Executive specifically highlighted the importance of establishing standards for commonly used Chinese medicinal materials in Hong Kong as soon as possible. In subsequent Policy Addresses, the Chief Executive reiterated the government's commitment to establishing reference standards for Chinese medicinal materials.

The principles guiding the HKCMM Standards work are as follows:
To provide suitable and feasible references for the Chinese medicine industry;
To ensure the safety and quality of Chinese medicinal materials to protect public health;
To align with international standards; and
To promote the trade of Chinese medicine.
With the publication of the 11th volume of the Hong Kong Chinese Medicinal Materials Standards in December 2024, a total of 11 volumes have now been released, covering research results and standards for 344 types of Chinese medicinal materials.
